We’ll guide you through it.

In the procedure room

As your procedure begins, your anesthesia provider will be with you the entire time—monitoring you continuously and adjusting your care as needed. Our job is to keep you safe, comfortable, and supported from start to finish.

What to expect

  • You’ll be connected to monitors that track heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and oxygen levels.
  • Your anesthesia provider will talk with you, answer questions, and confirm your comfort plan.

Your anesthesia team

You’ll have a dedicated anesthesia professional focused on you throughout the procedure. This means:

  • Continuous observation and monitoring
  •  Real-time adjustments based on your body’s response
  •  Close coordination with your surgeon and nursing team

Getting comfortable (before anesthesia begins)

Depending on your procedure and anesthesia plan, you may experience:

  • A brief review of your health history and plan
  • Placement of an IV (if needed)
  • Medication to help you feel relaxed
  • Positioning to keep you comfortable and support a safe procedure

Types of anesthesia

Your care team selects the anesthesia approach based on your procedure, medical history, and safety needs.

  • General anesthesia – a fully asleep state for major procedures
  • Regional anesthesia – numbs a larger area of the body
  • Local anesthesia with sedation – you remain relaxed and comfortable while the procedure area is numbed

Monitoring and safety

Safety is not one step—it’s continuous.

We monitor key body functions throughout the entire procedure, including:

  • Breathing and oxygenation
  • Heart rate and blood pressure
  • Comfort and depth of anesthesia
  • Temperature and overall stability (as appropriate)

Your safety and comfort

Your anesthesia provider remains at your side throughout the entire procedure. This close attention allows us to respond quickly and help ensure you are safe, comfortable, and supported from start to finish.

If you feel nervous right before the procedure

It’s normal to feel anxious. Tell your nurse or anesthesia provider—our team will explain what’s happening, answer questions, and help you feel more at ease.
