Before you go, we’ll review everything.

After your procedure

After your procedure, you’ll move to the recovery area where nurses and your anesthesia team will continue to monitor and support you. We’ll help you wake up comfortably and ensure you’re stable before you leave.

In the recovery room

  • You may feel sleepy, chilly, or mildly nauseated at first
  • Our team will help manage your comfort and pain control safely
  • Once you are fully awake and stable, you will be cleared to go home

What “ready to go home” means

Before discharge, your team will confirm things like:

  • Stable vital signs
  • Breathing comfortably
  • Pain and nausea are controlled
  • You can drink fluids (and sometimes eat lightly, if approved)
  • You have a safe ride home and instructions to follow

When you go home

  • A responsible adult must drive you
  • Avoid driving, alcohol, or important decisions for 24 hours
  • Follow all instructions from your care team
  • Rest the day of your procedure and ease back into activity as advised

Common side effects

These are common and typically temporary:

  • Mild sore throat
  • Tiredness or grogginess
  • Dizziness
  • Temporary forgetfulness

Comfort tips at home (simple guidance)

  • Sip fluids as tolerated and eat lightly if approved
  • Move slowly when standing up to prevent dizziness
  • Take medications only as directed
  • Rest—your body may need extra sleep for the next 24 hours

Call your doctor if you notice

  • Severe or worsening pain
  • Trouble breathing or chest pain
  • Ongoing nausea or vomiting
  • Any unexpected symptoms

NOTE: if you have difficulty breathing, chest pain, fainting, or severe symptoms, seek emergency care right away.
